NEW DELHI: Actor Suresh Gopi will call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi today. He is likely to meet BJP chief J P Nadda and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also. Reports said some crucial decisions will be taken.

Suresh Gopi and his family reached Delhi last night. He clarified that his visit is to invite the Prime Minister for a private function related to his family. It is also heard that Modi summoned him to Delhi after the padayatra was organized by Suresh Gopi in Thrissur. It is almost sure that Suresh Gopi will contest from Thrissur in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. With Lok Sabha elections around the corner, the actor’s meet with the Prime Minister has political significance. It is assessed that the padayatra has boosted the BJP in Kerala. The padayatra in Thrissur got the attention of many central leaders.

Thrissur is one of the constituencies where the BJP has the highest probability of victory in the state. The BJP has issues like Karuvannur as a political weapon to capture Thrissur.

Suresh Gopi has been working in Thrissur for the past few years eyeing the Lok Sabha elections. Suresh Gopi is involved in public issues in the district. The padayatra was done as part of this. The padayatra led by Suresh Gopi from Karuvannur to Thrissur was noted for its massive turnout. BJP state president K Surendran inaugurated by handing over the party flag to the actor on October 2.

There were speculations that Suresh Gopi was reluctant to take up the post as chief of Satyajit Rai Film Institute. This was as it would require him to stay away from full time political activity. However, he himself had made it clear later through social media that he would take up the post. The actor said that he is taking up the post as Anurag Thakur had assured him that it is not a salaried job and that he can continue as a politician. The actor expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister, Home Minister and his friend Union Minister Anurag Singh Thakur for appointing him to the post.
