VARKALA: A man has been arrested in a case involving an attempt to endanger the lives of his sister's children by throwing petrol bombs at his mother's house and creating a climate of terror. Shah Kutty (53), a resident of Edava, was apprehended by the Ayirur police.
The police reported that Shahkutty came to the Edava Odayamukku Jas Vihar residence with the intent to attack, carrying approximately five bottles filled with petrol and cloth wicks. His mother, Rukiya Bivi, his sister, Jasmin and Jasmin's sons, Muhammad Jasbin and Muhammad Jibin were present in the house. He poured petrol on the two-wheelers parked in the yard and set them on fire, causing a situation of fear and panic. Jasbin, who attempted to intervene was also assaulted.
The police received information about the incident and took Shahkutty into custody. Jasbin suffered minor injuries during the altercation. A scooter and a bike parked in the yard were partially damaged by the fire. Forensic experts arrived at the scene and collected evidence. The Ayirur police stated that Shahkutty had demanded money from his sister, and the motive behind the attack was resentment due to non-payment. The police have filed charges against him under the Explosive Act and for attempted murder. The accused was presented in court and has been remanded into custody.
