BENGALURU: 12 people were burnt to death in a firecracker godown fire in Bengaluru's Attiballa. The accident took place at a firecracker godown owned by Ramaswamy Reddy located on Attiballa Main Road. While unloading firecrackers from the vehicle, it unexpectedly exploded and caught fire. Out of the 20 workers, 12 people were reported to have died and many others were injured. The death toll is likely to rise.
The explosion tossed the firecracker boxes in the vehicle to other parts of the warehouse, adding to the severity of the accident. Four vehicles parked at the door of the godown were burnt. Five units of the fire force arrived and brought the fire under control around 7.30 pm.
Bengaluru District Superintendent of Police Mallikarjun Baldandi said that the explosion could be heard from kilometres away. There were 20 workers inside the warehouse when the fire broke out. Seven people were rescued. He informed that efforts are being made to identify the charred bodies. Police and fire force are camping at the place.
