NAINITAL: Seven people died when a tourist bus bound for Uttarakhand plunged into a valley. The tragic incident occurred in Kaladungi, Nainital district. The bus fell a significant 200 feet resulting in the loss of five women, one man and one child. Additionally, 26 people sustained injuries and were promptly transported to the hospital. The tourists were from Hisar district in Haryana.

The accident happened during the previous night as the bus was returning from a visit to Nainital. At the time of the accident, there were 33 passengers on board. Police and the state disaster management team swiftly responded to the scene conducting rescue operations.

Due to the accident occurring at night, the rescue efforts faced delays and the injured were brought to the hospital later than desired. The operation was further complicated by poor lighting and adverse weather conditions. The exact cause of the accident remains uncertain but initial police findings suggest that the bus might have lost control after encountering a pothole on the road.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed his deep sorrow regarding the incident on X stating, "We have received distressing news about a bus accident on Kaladungi Road in Nainital. Rescue operations led by local authorities and state disaster management teams are underway. The injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment. My prayers go out for their recovery and for the departed souls."
