Stress becomes paramount during exams and it is palpable in students during this phase. Times are such that even the smartest student fears the chance of going down in ranks. Exams have turned competitive as students are simply adamant about scoring high marks such that there won’t exist any wide gap in marks between the topper and the lowest scorer.
Due to the pressure of parents and teachers, most of the students go through severe mental stress during exams. On another note, a good number of students are lining up in front of clinical psychologists to help solve this quandary of exams. Amidst such talks, it is nothing short of a wise move from the government to conduct two examinations for class 10th and 12th students.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has explained that the two exams are being held to reduce the stress among students and to curb the general fear in students about the chance of failing the first one. Moreover, both exams are not mandatory for students. Those who want to write both exams can do so. The option of considering a higher score in any of these exams is a relief to the students.
The exam will emulate the JEE model. The central government is planning to implement this in 2024. Students who have scored excellent marks in the first exam need not write the second one. However, students who have failed to perform at their penultimate level during the first exam can make the best use of the second chance.
According to experts in the education domain, the current system of examination only assesses the memorization capability of students but not the real know-how the students have for the subject. However, the experts haven’t yet submitted a feasible alternative to replace the redundant system. According to experts, students who top in the present model of exams have slim chances of achieving success in professional life.
On another note, Students are forced into unscientific coaching sessions and are coerced to score better in IIT and NEET exams. This is one of the mainsprings for the rising cases of suicides among youths in India.
“Life will be ruined unless I get excellent marks in examinations”. This is the general thought burning in every young mind. But alas, to achieve proper success, this attitude should change. Most of the geniuses who made worldly discoveries weren’t the best scorers in school examinations. A deep understanding of subjects leads to glory and this is not just gauged by exams and there is ample time to learn everything. Worry less.
