NEW DELHI: BJP has released the list of candidates in three of the five states where assembly elections will be held. The candidate list of Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh have been released. Former chief minister and senior leader Vasundhara Raje Scindia's name is missing from the list released in Rajasthan. But seven MPs are included in the list. Divyakumari, Narendrakumar, Baba Balaknath, Kirodi Lal Meena, Bhagirath Choudhary, Devji Patel, and Rajvardhan Singh Rathore are on the list of candidates who are competing.
There are 64 candidates in the second phase candidate list of Chhattisgarh. Former Chief Minister Raman Singh will seek re-election from Rajnandgaon. MPs Renuka Singh, Gomati Sai and Arun Sau have also made it to the list. In Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan will contest from Budhni.
The Election Commission has announced the dates for assembly elections in five states today. Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar has announced the election dates for Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Mizoram. In Mizoram, the election will be held on November 7, while in Chhattisgarh, the election will be held in two phases. The first phase will be held on November 7 and the second phase on November 17. Elections will be held in Rajasthan on November 23, Madhya Pradesh on November 17 and Telangana on November 30. The Chief Election Commissioner also stated that the counting of votes in all five states is on December 3.
Elections are being held for 200 constituencies in BJP-ruling Madhya Pradesh. Congress-ruling Rajasthan has 200 seats. The number of assembly seats in Telangana is 119, Chhattisgarh has 90 seats and Mizoram has 40 seats. Rajeev Kumar said in a press conference that the date was announced after discussions with the political parties and enforcement agencies of the five states where elections are to be held. He also clarified that the focus of the commission is to enable a transparent and fair election process.
