THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Amidst the ensuing squabble over signing contentious bills, the government sent two more bills passed by the assembly to Raj Bhavan on Monday for Governor’s assent. Kerala Cooperative Societies Third Amendment Bill and the Kerala Motor Transport Workers Payment of Fair Wages Amendment Bill are awaiting the governor’s decision.

The amendment in the motor transport bill is made in such a way that it allows the government to intervene if the employer doesn’t pay wages to motor transport workers. The bill is likely to be signed by the governor as it is aimed at labour welfare.

The Co-operative Law Amendment Bill has 56 amendments in the Co-operative Act, including setting the term of the governing body members in co-operative societies to three consecutive terms. If irregularities are found, the governing body can be suspended.

The Governor has also tabled certain demands saying the bill should be thoroughly examined with provisions such as an IAS officer instead of a senior officer in the post of co-operative registrar, a panel including an outside member and two members of the governing body for the evaluation of loan collateral, and an audit team including an officer from the CAG office for the audit of co-operative societies.

It is expected that the governor may sign a few of the contentious bills on Tuesday. Finance Bill, Building Tax Amendment Bill and Dairy Farmers Welfare Fund Amendment Bill are likely to be signed.

The Governor is going to Delhi on Wednesday and will return on the 13th of October.
