HYDERABAD: New Zealand defeated the Netherlands by 99 runs in the ODI World Cup on Monday. Batting first, New Zealand scored 322 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 50 overs. In high hopes of upsetting the Kiwis, Netherlands took up the chase but were bowled out for 223 runs despite some fine individual performances. This is New Zealand's second win in the tournament. Mitchell Santer took 5 wickets for New Zealand. Santner was also terrific with the bat scoring 36 runs out of 17 balls and remaining unbeaten.
New Zealand, who lost the toss and went into bat, were guided to a humungous total by the batting masterclass from the top order. Will Young, who was dismissed as a duck against England in the last match, became New Zealand's top scorer yesterday with 70 runs. Rachin Ravindra (51), and captain Tom Latham (53) scored half-centuries.
Santner created chaos with the bowl as he tore apart the Netherlands' batting top order early in the game. Opener Max Odov (16), top scorer Ackerman (69), captain Scott Edwards (30), Vander Merwe (1) and Klein (8) were dismissed by Santner.
