ADIMALY: A youth attempted suicide by dousing petrol and setting him ablaze as he was depressed being unmarried. The incident happened last evening on Idukki-Adimaly Town last evening. The youth has been identified as Jineesh (39) of Panniyarkutty staying in a rented house in Adimali Ambalapady.

The youth carrying petrol in his hand reached below the high mast light at Adimali Central Junction and then poured petrol on his body and set him ablaze. Seeing this, the locals rushed towards him and tried to douse the flames after wetting the sack and throwing sand. He sustained serious burns and lost a major part of his skin. He was first taken to Adimali taluk hospital and after giving first aid was taken to Kottayam Medical College Hospital.

Jineesh has mother and a brother, who is not married. He had told many of his friends that he is sad for not getting married. Initial reports of the police said this may have led him to take the drastic step. Jineesh was working in many hotels in Adimali.

A similar incident happened at Chamarajanagar in Mysuru last year. Vinod (34), a resident of Hanur, a factory worker in Bengaluru, committed suicide as he was depressed over the delay in getting married. Relatives said that he was upset that his marriage is not happening even after the marriage of his brothers and sisters. He later turned an alcoholic.
