JERUSALEM: As the Israel-Hamas war continues, reports are claiming that Palestine President Mahmoud Abbas is gearing up to visit Russia. It was a Russian media outlet that revealed this. Abdel Hafiz Nofal, the Palestinian ambassador to Russia, said talks are underway for the visit, but an exact date has not been fixed yet.
"Abbas will reach Moscow. We are waiting to receive an official confirmation regarding this from Kremlin, Both Palestine and Russia are constantly in touch with each other," Nofal said.
Mahmoud Abbas last visited Russia two years ago. Russian President Vladimir Putin and Abbas had held talks last year during a conference held in Kazakhstan.
Russia has condemned violence against both sides in the Israel-Hamas war. Russia also accused the US of ignoring the demand for an independent Palestine. It criticized the USA's involvement in the war. Russia said that the intervention of a third party cannot be allowed.
Meanwhile, the USA's largest battleship, the Gerald R Ford, with five thousand sailors and numerous warplanes and missiles, is moving into the Mediterranean. Five other warships have arrived. US intervention was spurred by the killing of 10 Americans in the attacks carried out by Hamas. There are also reports claiming that the United States will not send troops to Israel.
About 1,600 people were killed on both sides in the war that has been going on for three days.
