As Russia passed the Ukraine demarcation line with strong offensives in February 2022, most of the world and geopolitical geniuses proudly predicted a Kremlin victory in just a week’s time. Alas, breaking many such ‘precise’ takes from elite analysts, the war is still continuing and it is October 2023, which is nearly one and a half years. According to current estimates, 349 billion US dollars is needed to rebuild Ukraine. Apart from this, the Ukraine war has also taken away 1,20,000 lives.
The pain inflicted by the Ukraine war hasn’t faded yet. The world is pondering means to wriggle out from this war and then comes another surprise in the eastern Mediterranean. About 2,000 people have already lost their lives in the war between Israel and the Hamas group in Palestine. Most of the killed are innocent people and residents, who have no history of crime.
After promising to eliminate Hamas from Palestine, Israel has now deployed more than 1 lakh soldiers near the Gaza border. The US has also sent their largest air carrier ship to the Mediterranean to support Israel. Western media has already reported that the real nemesis in the game is not Hamas but Iran; the brain behind the recent surprise attacks on Israel. The struggle and conflict for an independent Palestine is seven and a half decades old. The country since eons has been mired in conflict and the present one looks like the worst of all.
It is estimated that 5,000 rockets were fired in 20 minutes on October 7th by Hamas in the operation dubbed Al-Aqsa. The surprise offensive even outplayed the world’s best spy agency Mossad, as they were left flummoxed finding no clue how the terrorists intruded the borders without any prior skirmish. A similar kind of conflict between both countries took place in 2021, but it lasted for just 11 days. But this time, there is ample fear among major countries in the Middle East and Asia as they presage the war to slowly penetrate into other countries.
Two factions will thrive during the war. One is arms dealers and the other is hoarders. Arms dealers can test new weapons on the battlefield and sell the most lethal weapons to other countries in the Gulf region. Wartime is also when hoarders profit the most by taking advantage of shortages in food, fuel, etc.
Not any superfluous information, but the war can even wither its effect on the small state of Kerala in many ways. Families planning marriage could be adversely affected by the war as the price of gold would break the roof in the coming days. Russia did not make the breakthrough in Ukraine as it had hoped. Likewise, the war in Gaza cannot be expected to end quickly, even admitting how lordly is Israel's military and intelligence.
It is clear that Hamas's attack was also aimed at breaking Israel's rapprochement with Arab countries, especially Saudi Arabia. UN along with an alliance of peace-loving countries should come up with a cogent stance against the conflict or else, it should be reminded that a third world war is in the offing.
