PATHANAMTHITTA: It has been one year since the bone-chilling Elanthoor human sacrifice case shook Kerala. A year on, the accused are still awaiting trial for murdering two women and consuming their flesh for financial prosperity. It was on October 11 last year that the evil in Elanthoor came to light. The accused in the case are Bhagwal Singh (68), his second wife Laila (52) and Muhammad Shafi (52) of Perumbavoor.

The first black magic took place on the night of June 8, 2022. Rosyln (49), a native of Kainady, Alappuzha, was tied up and sacrificed. Padma (52), a native of Salem Dharmapuri, was sacrificed on September 26. The charge sheet in the Padma case was filed on January 7th in the Ernakulam Judicial First Class Magistrate Court and the charge sheet in the Rosyln case was filed in the Perumbavoor court on January 21st. Shafi and Bhagwal Singh are lodged in Viyyur Jail and Laila in Kakkanad Jail.

Shafi's arrest was decisive

On September 27, 2022, Padma's son Selvan complained to the Kadavanthra police. During further investigation, the police got the CCTV footage of Padma going to Muhammad Shafi's hotel in Ernakulam and getting into his jeep. The information about human sacrifices came out when Shafi was interrogated. Shafi also testified that before Padma, he killed Rosyln, a lottery seller in Kaladi. In the subsequent investigation, Bhagwal Singh and Laila were taken into custody by the Kadavanthra police. The accused also revealed that the remains of the dead body were cut into pieces and buried in Bhagwal Singh's house with salt. It is also said in the charge sheet that this was a rare case because the accused ate human flesh after committing the murders.
