NEW DELHI: Indian captain Rohit Sharma recovered from the fatigue he suffered against Australia and made a strong comeback in the match against Afghanistan in the World Cup. Rohit broke Sachin Tendulkar's record scoring over 1,000 runs and achieving his century in the World Cup today.
Rohit reached his century in just 63 balls displaying a remarkable strike rate of over 150 including 12 fours and four sixes. His incredible performance led India to successfully chase down a target of 273 runs. He dominated the Arun Jaitley Stadium, becoming the fastest Indian player to score a century in the World Cup, surpassing the legendary Kapil Dev's record.
Ishan Kishan who contributed 47 runs was dismissed after a 150-run partnership in 17 overs. Rashid Khan took his wicket. India has currently scored 162 runs in 19 overs.
In the match, Afghanistan after winning the toss and choosing to bat managed to score 272 runs while losing eight wickets in their allotted 50 overs. Middle-order batsmen Hashmatullah Shahidi and Azmatullah Omarzai played impressively to help Afghanistan set a competitive score.
Shahidi scored 80 runs from 88 balls with eight fours and a six. Omarzai contributed 62 runs from 69 balls including four sixes and two fours. India's bowler Bumrah took four wickets conceding only 39 runs in his 10 overs. Hardik Pandya also played a crucial role by taking two wickets.
