THIRUVANANTHPUTARAM: Heavy rain has been predicted in the state today. Yellow alert has been issued in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Idukki. A chance of isolated heavy rain is predicted.
Isolated heavy rain will continue in the state till Monday as easterly winds intensify. The Central Meteorological Department has informed that there is a possibility of thunderstorm along with rain and strong wind speed of 30 to 40 km per hour.
The National Center for Oceanography and Oceanography (INCOIS) has informed that there is a possibility of high waves of 0.5 to 2.0 meters along Kerala coast and south Tamil Nadu coast till 11.30 tonight. Fishermen and coastal residents have been asked to be vigilant.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Research Center has warned that people should stay away from the danger areas as per the instructions of the authorities as there is a possibility of rough seas. Trips to the beach and activities in the sea should be completely avoided.
If rain continues in areas that have received heavy rainfall in the past few days, there is a possibility of landslides, mudslides, waterlogging in low-lying areas and cities.
