NAGERCOIL: The representatives of the Kerala government gave a customary welcome to the Navarathri idol procession in Kaliyakkavila. West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose inaugurated the procession in Kerala by lighting the lamp. Devaswom Board Commissioner B S Prakash, Thiruvananthapuram Rural SP Shilpa, MLAs C K Hareendran and M Vincent led the reception.
Kanyakumari District Police Chief Hari Kiran Prasad and Padmanabhapuram Sub Collector Kaushik attended the function. The procession which started from Padmanabhapuram on Thursday morning, reached Kuzhithura Mahadeva Temple by around 12 am. The procession reached Kaliyakkavila at around 11.30 a.m. today.
Tamil Nadu-Kerala police officials gave a guard of honour to the Navarathri idols. Women police officers were also part of the Kerala police team that gave the guard of honour to the idols. It was the first time that female officers gave the guard of honour. Thousands of people had gathered to witness the ceremonies at the border. The procession reached the border accompanied by elephants, various floats and musical instruments such as chendamelam.
