THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Light rains lashed the capital city of Thiruvananthapuram on Friday but there is more in the offing as per IMD reports. The Indian Meteorological Department has warned of the possibility of heavy rains in Kerala for the next five days. A yellow alert has been announced in various districts of Kerala till October 17.

IMD has also presaged light rains with thunder and lightning for the next three hours in Kerala. Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam and Idukki districts will witness sudden downpours in the coming hours. Strong winds with a speed of up to 40 kmph are expected to waft across the aforementioned districts, accompanying the rains.

Lightning strikes can cause burns, loss of vision, hearing, or heart attacks. On another note, domestic animals should not be tethered in the open during this time and a safer and closed enclosure fits best during the threat of lightning.
