AHMEDABAD: Indian batting prodigy Shubman Gill is rumoured to debut his cricket World Cup tournament on Saturday against arch-rivals Pakistan. Indian captain Rohit Sharma said there is a 99% possibility of Shubman representing India on Saturday. Gill, the star pick in this year’s World Cup jumped on ill luck suffering from high fever and drowsiness just days before the tournament. Gill was omitted from India’s first two games in the World Cup.

However now, Captain Rohit Sharma said, Gill has recuperated well and is back to 100% fitness. On Friday, Gill practised in the nets for a good one hour. Either Ishan Kishan or Shreyas Iyer will have to make way for Gill’s introduction to the team.

Interestingly, it is the third match between India and Pakistan in 2023 alone. A match in the Asia Cup was rained out. India crushed Pakistan by 228 runs in the second match. Both the teams won the first two matches in impressive style and by big margins. India defeated defending world champions Australia in the first match.

Pakistan's first match was against the relatively weak Netherlands. Mohammad Rizwan and Saud Shakeel anchored the innings with 68 runs each as Pakistan chased down a target of 287 runs in a canter.
