THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As per the recommendation of the Khader Committee, if classes 8th to 12 are made into a single unit as secondary, it is feared that around 8,000 teaching posts from primary, high school and higher secondary sections will be obliterated.

There is a plan to redeploy existing teachers on the retirement vacancies but the Teachers' union is apprehensive that there won’t be any new appointment in teachers posts.

By increasing the periods of higher secondary teachers to 28 per week and making one of the four compulsory subjects optional, the existing higher secondary teaching posts will be reduced. According to the educational reform recommendation, the qualification required for high school teachers is a Master's Degree and a B.Ed.

High school teachers without PG will be demoted to the primary category. Otherwise, a PG qualification will be required.

The minimum qualification for primary teachers is a degree. TTC-qualified teachers are also concerned about the happenings. Common seniority is the norm when it comes to integration. Junior teachers in High School and Higher Secondary may be demoted despite having PG qualification.
