THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: While the announcement of the reconstituted Congress constituency committees in the state is due to be completed by next week, there are complaints that backwards and scheduled sections have been left out of the list of new constituency presidents already released in various districts. Marginal consideration in local constituencies involving many assembly seats has led to deep resentment among these groups.
In all the 14 districts of the state, the new constituency presidents are determined by district committees comprising the in-charge KPCC general secretary, DCC president and others. Lists which are not significantly disputed in the committees have already been released with the permission of KPCC. In this way, even in the lists sent for approval by KPCC, the announcement is delayed due to the interference of top leaders.
Rushed efforts are being made to complete the declaration of constituency reorganization across the state by the 20th of this month. Complaints of neglect towards the backward-scheduled communities are emerging from many districts causing a headache for the leadership in this situation. There is a demand that this injustice should be resolved at least in the case of the constituency presidents to be announced in the districts.
Thiruvananthapuram is one of the districts with more complaints in this regard. There are a total of 184 constituencies in the district. It is complained that the Ezhava, Nadar, Vishwakarma and Scheduled Caste groups have got only a handful of presidential posts. Most presidents are from the forward castes. If there are ten constituency presidents in an assembly seat, one or two presidential terms are reserved for these categories. AICC has proposed that 50 percent reservation should be given to backward and scheduled classes and women in Congress committees.
