THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minding the alteration in India’s conventional stand in the Israel-Palestine conflict, the CPM State Secretariat has decided to hold a Palestinian solidarity event involving like-minded people. The event will be conducted till the 20th of this month.

In a press conference, CPM state secretary M V Govindan dodged a question about Hamas being a terrorist organization or not. Govindan later came back to the question with an ambiguous stand saying Hamas cannot be given the label of terrorist organization simply for the group's ideological leanings. The CPM State secretary also evaded when asked about his response to former health minister K K Shailaja’s FB post that called Hamas a terrorist organization.

“The CPM Central Committee has clarified its position on the Palestine issue. India should take the initiative to restore peace in the region and end the war as soon as possible. Palestine should get the country it deserves.” M V Govindan said.

India has steadfastly supported Israel in the conflict and interestingly moved away from their usual support for Palestine.
