KALAMASSERY: A former SI stabbed ASI Sunilkumar (52), of Eloor police station, after he came to investigate a drunken fight. Sunilkumar was admitted to Manjumal St. Joseph's Hospital with injuries on both hands. Surgery was performed on the left arm.
A case of attempt to murder has been registered against retired SI Paul (62) residing in Manjummal, Kalamassery.
After he beat up his wife and daughter, Paul's family called the police. The accused brandished a knife at the police team that came to the house. The policemen who were with Sunilkumar escaped unhurt. The accused was subjected to medical examination.
As per the police, the SI and his team of Eloor police station reached the house at around 1.30 pm on Friday after Paul's daughter phoned the police station to inform that he is drunk and instigating a fight. Paul was sitting in the room with the door closed when the police came. The police spoke to the family and asked Paul to open the door. As soon as he opened the door, he attacked the policemen with a knife.
ASI Sunilkumar was stabbed while trying to stop an attempt to stab a civil police officer. While taking Sunilkumar to the hospital, he came back and tried to assault him again.
More policemen arrived and took Paul into the vehicle after tying up his hands and feet.
