THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: LPG cylinder truck drivers to go on indefinite strike. The labour unions have announced that they will go on strike from November 5.
The pay increase for truck drivers has been in line for the past 11 months. But the strike began when the owners refused to take the constructive measures. Joint discussions between truck owners, drivers, and labour officials also failed.
Truck drivers are on a token strike today till two o'clock. It is also indicated that discussions will be held at the ministerial level before November 5. This is considering that if the truck drivers go on strike, the supply of cooking gas in the state will go into crisis.
Currently, drivers are compensated per journey. They are requesting that this be prevented and that the fair wage system be put into place. The organizations also alleged that the truck owners were not ready for negotiations.
Meanwhile, the price of a commercial cooking gas cylinder (19 kg) was hiked last week. Rs 209 per cylinder was increased. Domestic cylinder prices remain unchanged. Domestic and commercial cylinder prices were decreased by Rs. 200 and Rs. 160, respectively, last month. Oil companies have raised the price of commercial cylinders by highlighting the rise in crude oil prices.
