THRISSUR: Devaswom Recruitment Board has invited applications from Brahmins only for the post of temple cook in Guruvayur Devaswom. In a notification issued on Wednesday, the board invited applications only from men belonging to the Hindu Brahmin community for a permanent vacancy in the temple.

The vacancy follows the retirement of one out of three cooks. The main qualification is to be a Hindu Brahmin. The person must be able to read and write Malayalam and a working experience of 3 years as temple cook. Persons with disabilities and women are not eligible to apply. Pay scale is 23,000-50,200. The last date is November 9. The existing cooks in the temple are Brahmins. Only they can cook for offerings including 'annadanam'. At the same time, it is reported that there are about 10 temporary cook assistants from Nair and Ezhava communities and some backward castes.
