THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rain continues to lash the state. Orange alert has been issued in four districts today. Orange alert is from Thiruvananthapuram to Alappuzha. The rest eight districts are on yellow alert.

Cyclone is remaining over South Tamil Nadu. It is likely to intensify into a low pressure by day after tomorrow. The Central Meteorological Department has issued a warning that it will move towards west-northwest direction and strengthen again in the next 48 hours. Low pressure is likely over Arabian Sea. The Meteorological Center has predicted that rain with thunder and lightning will continue in the state for the next five days.


Meantime, heavy rains in the capital since yesterday caused widespread damage. Many houses and roads are flooded in Vellayani, Pothencode and Kazhakoottam. A house collapsed at Madhavapuram in Veli. Mud caved in at a house in Venganoor.

Technopark and Cosmo Hospital are waterlogged. A youth was injured when a wall collapsed in Pothencode. The Kochuveli railway station track is flooded. The Thiruvananthapuram-New Delhi Kerala Express will be delayed due to this. The train which was scheduled to leave at 12:30 pm will leave only at 7:30 pm. 17 houses are under water in Pallichal after a stream overflowed. The fire force is conducting rescue operations.
