THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rain continues in the state. The Central Meteorological Department has informed that there is a possibility of light rain in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad in the next three hours.
Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha are on orange alert today. A chance of heavy rain at isolated places has been predicted. Yellow alert has been
sounded in Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad. The Meteorological Centre has warned of rains to intensify in the next five days.
The situation in Thiruvananthapuram is very serious. The Neyyar sub-canal collapsed in Parassala Parasuvakkal. A wall collapsed at Sreekaryam Manvila Prakrithi Park. Technopark has been flooded. Three houses collapsed in Veli Pozhikkara. Thiruvananthapuram city is also flooded.
Minister V Sivankutty said Thiruvananthapuram received heavy rainfall in the state. Minister K Rajan informed that 17 relief camps have been opened including in Thiruvananthapuram. There are 577 people in camps. A holiday is given for schools functioning as relief camps.
Power disrupted
Following heavy rain, water entered the substation from Thettiyar canal near Kazhakoottam 110 K V substation. As part of safety measures, 11 KV feeders from sub-station Kuzhivila, University and Oceanus have been switched off. As a result, power supply was disrupted in some areas under Kazhakoottam, Kulathur and Sreekaryam areas, which were being supplied with power through these feeders. There is a situation where the operation of Terls, Muttathara and Veli substations, which receive electricity from Kazhakoottam substation, is completely disrupted. The officials informed that efforts are being made to supply electricity to these areas through other means.
