KALPATTA: The dream that Sherin Shahana nurtured while in a wheelchair has dream come true. Sherin Shahana, whose doctors ruled that she would not live for more than seven days, will now be the shining star of Indian Railways.

The training will begin on the 6th of next month at the Lucknow Indian Railway Institute for Transport Management. Although she cleared civil services, she felt that she would not be able to start training this year. Sherin Shahana told 'KeralaKaumudi' that she was overjoyed to get IRS, albeit a little late.

Sherin Shahana is the daughter of late Usman, a native of Kaniyambetta and Amina. She was bound to a wheelchair after she slipped and fell from the top of her moss-covered house in the summer rains. Sherin, who faced every crisis with a smile, fell from the terrace on May 22, 2017. The injuries were so severe that the doctors were sure that her death would be happening soon. However, Shahana and her family were not ready to give up yet. The result of the treatment done with the help of the locals at the cost of lakhs was a life of paralysis below the waist. Her story of survival began from there. The story of another girl who achieved great things while in a wheelchair became an inspiration. Shahana joined Absolute Civil Service Academy. She took admission in Chitrasalabham Civil Service Training for the differently abled. She attended classes online during Covid period and live classes at the Thiruvananthapuram campus. Shahana failed to succeed in her first attempt but reached the target by attaining the 913th rank on the second attempt.

You are my second child

People who knew me and didn't know me helped. Built some good relationships as well. Rishiraj sir helped me with all that. He held me close by saying, 'You are my second child'. I met Rishi sir with a thick moustache when I went for a mock interview at Absolute Academy. I don't know if I answered all the questions because of fear. I still remember Sir saying to Jobin Sir that day, 'Write it down, she will clear civil service this time.'
