THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has expressed great optimism about the development brought by the Vizhinjam International port. He called it a significant contribution from Kerala to India and inaugurated the welcoming ceremony for the first ship, 'Shenhua 15', arriving at Vizhinjam Port with cranes. Chief Minister Vijayan stated that there's no concept of 'impossible' for Kerala, highlighting the state's ability to overcome crises, as seen with Vizhinjam. He emphasized the immense development potential of Vizhinjam Port, which is contributing to a development boom. The Chief Minister declared that Vizhinjam is a source of pride for both Kerala and India and will gain prominence on the list of international ports. He acknowledged that there were international and commercial lobbies opposing the port but praised the central government for prioritizing it and providing a Viability Gap Fund. Vizhinjam stands as a successful example of a public-private partnership, and the Chief Minister extended his congratulations to the Adani Group. The event was attended by Union Minister V. Muralidharan, Leader of the Opposition V. D. Satheesan, and various other dignitaries. The first ship received a grand welcome, including a water salute, and the unloading of cranes is set to commence today. The ship is expected to return on Friday. Union Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal was unable to attend due to prior commitments, and Satheesan arrived at the function after paying his respects to a cutout of Oommen Chandy, installed by Congress members at the entrance.
