KOLLAM: Gurudeva's name is not mentioned in the order appointing the interim committee for the management of the Sree Narayana Guru cultural complex set up by the state government at Kollam Asramam and the supervision committee for the installation of the Gurudeva idol. It is alleged that there are ulterior motives behind mentioning it as Kollam Cultural Committee in the order.
The cultural complex in Kollam was announced in the first budget of the first Pinarayi government. The budget announcement said that the complex will be named after Sree Narayana Gurudeva. The complex, which was dedicated to the state on May 4, is inscribed as Sree Narayanaguru Cultural Complex. However, in the government order released last Friday, it is only mentioned as a Kollam cultural complex.
This has been repeated in more than one place pointing out that it may not be accidental.
The installation of a statue bearing no resemblance to Gurudeva in the complex was a huge controversy on the day of the inauguration. The authorities who removed the statue then announced that a new one would be installed. Besides selecting the sculptor, a committee consisting of the Sivagiri Mutt President, General Secretary, Treasurer, Director of the International Sree Narayana Study Center etc. was appointed to prepare the design and supervise it. It is also alleged that the functionaries of the SNDP meeting were deliberately excluded from this committee.
