THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Industrial Security Force (SISF) may be deployed for security when the first phase of the Vizhinjam Port is completed. The recommendation is under the consideration of the Home Department and once the approval is given, the port company will sign the contract. The services of the Coast Guard were also sought for security at sea.

With the completion of the first phase, a police sub-division under the leadership of an ACP will also be started in Vizhinjam. The number of Police Coast Guard personnel will also be increased. A 50-member Coastal Police is currently guarding the first ship that arrived with cranes. Officials of the central intelligence agencies will also reach Vizhinjam. Apart from SISF security, Adani Group's special security team will also be present in Vizhinjam.

50 people in the first phase

ADGP MR Ajith Kumar is in charge of SISF. In the first phase, 50 SISF personnel will be assigned to port security. The port company has to pay a fixed fee to the SISF for them. Rs 1400 per day is the charge for civil police officers, Rs 1500 for a guard with a gun, Rs 2300 for an armed police SI, and 2800 for an armed police inspector. The request by the port department for lowering the charges is under the consideration of the home department.

SISF is currently providing security to 77 establishments including Technopark, Reserve Bank, and Kochi Metro. Through this, SISF receives more than 40 crore rupees annually.
