THRISSUR: In a terrible incident, four college students drowned in Thrissur’s Kainoor Chira here on Monday. The tragedy happened at 2.30 pm today. As per police reports, the students fell prey to the unknown waters and were drawn into the darkened depths. They visited the spot with the intention of taking a dip in the cold waters.

At first, one student started drowning and he gave a cry for help to alert his friends. All three of his friends without having a second thought jumped into the water but ended up killing themselves. Arjun Aloysius from Poonkunnam, Abi John and Nivedh Krishna from Kuttur, and Siyad Hussain from Vadookara died in the tragedy. They are graduate students of St. Aloysius College and St. Thomas College, Thrissur.

No locals were present near the area at the time of the incident. It was too late when the nearby residents reached the spot after hearing the choked-up wails from the students. By the time the locals started rescue operations, all four were drowned completely. The accident occurred in a dyke constructed for irrigation and agricultural purposes.

The locals and fire force conducted a quick rescue operation but the lives couldn’t be saved. The dead bodies were shifted to Thrissur District Hospital.
