KOZHIKODE: A car accident claimed the lives of a couple today in Vengara. Shaiju and his wife Jeema, who were from Kakkodi lost their lives. They were on a scooter which collided between two private buses. Another motorbike was also involved, but that rider only suffered minor injuries. The accident occurred this morning when the private bus in front of Shiju and Jeema's scooter abruptly braked. They also tried to stop, but the bus behind them couldn't halt in time and struck their scooter and another nearby motorbike. The couple sustained serious injuries and were rushed to a nearby private hospital, but sadly, they didn't survive. In a separate incident, a woman lost her life after a private bus collided with a scooter on the Valapattanam bridge in Kannur. The victim, Smitha from Azhikode passed away and one person sustained injuries. The bus was headed to Thaliparambu when the accident occurred. Meanwhile, in Kannur at the Caltex junction, a police jeep crashed into a petrol pump. The impact caused damage to both the jeep and the petrol pump. The police jeep, which had started to deteriorate, had to be lifted with ropes. The petrol pump staff noted that the police officers in the vehicle left the scene soon after the accident.
