CHENNAI: Doctor who sold newborn babies after buying them from poor couples was arrested in Namakkal. Doctor Anuradha of Namakkal Tiruchengode Government Hospital and her assistant Lokambal are the offenders who were arrested. 49-year-old Anuradha targets were the poor who came to the hospital for treatment.

The doctor used to send her assistant Lokambal to mothers with two children. In the investigation, the police found that the parents were paid 5000 rupees for a boy and 3000 rupees for a girl and the children were sold to others later. The doctor confessed to having sold seven children so far.

The doctor was caught when Lokambal approached the couple Dinesh and Nagajyoti who came to the hospital on October 12 because their newborn baby was not feeling well. The suspicious couple lodged a complaint with the District Collector and the SP. The doctor and the assistant were arrested during the subsequent investigation. It has been hinted that they are also involved in organ trafficking. It is also indicated that they got help from some people from government hospitals in Tiruchirappalli and Tirunelveli. The health minister ordered Anuradha to be dismissed from her job and a special team to be appointed for investigation.

An inspection was conducted at Tiruchengode Government Hospital under the leadership of Namakkal District Welfare Joint Director Rajmohan. A few years ago, some people were arrested in Salem and Erode districts for selling newborn babies. The woman doctor was arrested for selling babies while the trial of this case is still going on in court.
