THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rains are continuing unabated in Kerala, especially in the capital city of Thiruvananthapuram. IMD has warned hilly and rural areas of Thiruvananthapuram as the report mentions stronger rains in the offing.
Waterlogging has been reported in many places and there are also cases of trees getting uprooted in Dhanuvachapuram. The rains are expected to stay until Sunday. On Tuesday, the rain started just after 2 pm at noon and is still continuing relentlessly in the capital city even during the late night hours. Vamanapuram River is overflowing in the Vithura range. While in Pozhiyoor, the sea has turned turbulent with ferocious waves hitting the shores. Amburi and Vellarada areas have been experiencing heavy rain for an hour.
Meanwhile, yellow alert has been announced today in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts. Strong winds with speeds of 40 to 45 kmph and occasional gusts of up to 55 kmph are likely along the Kerala coast along with bad weather conditions.
Till 11.30 pm, there may be high waves of 0.5 to 1.8 meters and rough seas, the National Center for Oceanographic Studies (INCOIS) said. IMD has restricted fishing in coastal areas.
