THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition leader VD Satheesan sarcastically remarked that the capital was flooded on the day M V Govindan proposed the implementation of K-rail. He questioned how the situation would be if there were embankments spanning 300 km with ten-foot-high walls on both sides especially considering the current flooding during overnight rains.
VD Satheesan made these comments during a media interaction after his visit to the relief camp at Kunnukuzhi School and the affected Kadakampally area. He emphasized the need for state development plans that take climate change into account. The Chief Minister has pledged measures to prevent waterlogging citing the Dutch model. Satheesan noted that one night of rain forced all the poor residents of Thiruvananthapuram into relief camps and urged the government to provide immediate financial aid to help them make their homes habitable again.
Additionally, Satheesan called for the utilization of Kochi University of Science and Technology's expertise to improve weather forecasting accuracy.
