THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The UDF on Wednesday laid siege to the Secretariat against the LDF Government. The blockade which started at 6 am will end at 12 noon. The opposition besieged the secretariat raising the slogan ‘sarkarallithu kollakkar’.
The besiege is against the price hike, corruption, co-operative bank robbery, neglect of farmers and breakdown of law and order. All roads except the cantonment gate leading to the Secretariat were besieged. The UDF is conducting its second secretariat strike in five months. Opposition leader V D Satheesan inaugurated the protest at 10. Around half lakh workers are participating.
Security has been tightened following the besiege. Traffic restrictions have been imposed in the capital city as part of the blockade.
Vehicles going to East Fort from Vellayambalam will be diverted via Vazhuthacaud-Thycaud-Thampanoor, and via Vazhuthacaud- Kalabhavan Mani Road- Panavila.
The vehicles going from Pattom to East Fort should take a turn from LMS side and go through Bakery Junction-Flyover and those going to East Fort from Asan Square should go through Palayam Underpass-Bakery-Flyover.
Those going from East Fort to Vellayambalam side should go via Overbridge-Thampanoor-Fly Over-Thycaud-Mettukada-Vazhuthacaud.
Those going to Pattom should go via Thampanoor-Panavila-Bakery-Flyover-Under Passage-Asan Square via PMG.
Those who want to go via Chakkai bypass should go via Attakulangara-Enchakkal.
Vehicles transporting the activists for the blockade should be parked at the Attukal temple parking ground and the Enchakkal bypass.
