KOZHIKODE: Excise has busted 28-year-old Husni Mubarak from Kozhikode, for transporting 105.994 grams of MDMA on a motorcycle from Bangalore to Kozhikode. He was caught at the Kootupuzha Excise Checkpost. The seized synthetic drugs are valued at over ten lakh rupees in the market.
Possession of such a drug in large quantities is a non-bailable offence, carrying a sentence of ten to twenty years of imprisonment and a fine of up to two lakh rupees. Reportedly, Mubarak's regular customers are students from colleges and other locations in the Kozhikode district. He was presented in court and detained.
The operation was conducted by a team including Kootupuzha Checkpost Excise Inspector P. Anish Mohan, Preventive Officers Aziz A., Kamalakshan T. V, Preventive Officer (Grade) Khalid T., and Biju KK.
In a separate incident in Neyyattinkara, 30 kg of Pan masala was seized during an excise vehicle inspection in the Balaramapuram area. The Pan masala was brought by Shehin, a resident of Parasuvaikkal. Further investigation led to the discovery of 400 kg of Pan masala at the residence of Shaji, a native of Kalliyur. The operation was led by Neyyattinkara Excise Range Inspector Ajeesh, with Preventive Officer P Lawrence, CEOs Anish SS, Akhil V, and driver Anil Kumar were also present.
