NEW DELHI: On Tuesday, the Supreme Court of India refused to grant legal recognition for same-sex marriages in India. The apex court delivered the verdict stating that it cannot legally recognise same-sex marriages as it doesn't fall under its purview. This decision, reached by a 3-2 majority, left countless members of the LGBTQ+ community in the country disheartened. Now, a post shared by a young gay couple is garnering the attention of social media users.
A youth named Ananya Kotia, who is doing a PhD at the London School of Economics, has shared a picture of him exchanging rings with his partner in front of the Supreme Court. The picture shows Ananya's partner and lawyer Utkarsh Saxena getting down on one knee and proposing to him with a ring against the backdrop of the Supreme Court.
'Yesterday hurt. Today Utkarsh Saxena and I went back to the court that denied our rights, and exchanged rings. So this week wasn't about a legal loss; but our engagement. We'll return to fight another day,' Ananya Kotia wrote on X. Many people have come up congratulating the two.
