THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a recent review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan regarding the upcoming Mandalakala Pilgrimage season, several significant developments were discussed to enhance the pilgrimage experience at Sabarimala. The Sabarimala Devaswam Board President, Anantha Gopan announced plans to digitize 18 queue complexes streamlining the queue system for pilgrims. This move aims to improve efficiency and reduce waiting times.
Various infrastructure improvements were also revealed. These include installing a folding roof on the third floor and adding storage in front of the Bhandaram. Additionally, metal detectors and large screens will be set up in this area. An emergency exit is also in the works for improved safety. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan emphasized the importance of providing clean drinking water to pilgrims, ensuring their well-being. Continuous monitoring of water quality will be maintained to meet this goal.
The Chief Minister expressed intentions to free activities related to Sabarimala from Treasury control, streamlining management processes. A strong emphasis was placed on cleanliness in and around Sabarimala. Training will be provided to police and Devaswom Board employees to ensure the area remains clean and well-managed. KSRTC buses running from Sabarimala to Nilakkal without conductors were discussed with the practice likely to continue. This measure aims to simplify the ticketing process.
Several facilities are near completion, including 168 modern urinals, 36 of which are designated for women. Teams equipped with stretchers will be available to transport the injured to health centers. Nilakkal will feature a cloakroom, rest area and 16 modern toilets. Elected officials raised concerns about the safety of pilgrims on the Sabarimala Road advocating for additional doctors and cardiac care ambulances. Special attention was drawn to the ongoing danger in Kanamala emphasizing the need for heightened safety measures.
Efforts will be made to ensure ambulance services in Kanamala and to map locations where accidents are most likely to occur. Railway officials noted that 218 special train services were operated last season with 250 expected for the upcoming pilgrimage season. This meeting included the participation of several key officials and representatives, all dedicated to improving the Sabarimala pilgrimage experience for devotees.
