PUNE: The authorities have suspended the cop who became a millionaire by playing an online game Dream11. Pune police sub inspector Somnath Zende was suspended on charges of misconduct and for tarnishing the image of the police. An investigation conducted found that he participated in the online game without prior permission and spoke to the media in police uniform. He was then made to stay away from duty and later was suspended from service.
Zende played the game and got Rs 1.5 crore in his account. He had planned to clear his debts incurred in building a house and to give good education to his daughter. That hope has shattered now. Further action is likely to be taken against Zende as part of the investigation. DCP Swapna Gore was in charge of the investigation. Dream 11 is a fantasy gaming app. The company worth Rs 7535 crore is India's first gaming startup. The company is facing several legal issues alleging that the game is gambling. The company that started in 2008 has over 110 million users.
