THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A woman, who came for a darshan at Padmanabhaswamy Temple, collapsed and died after hitting her head on the roadside manhole. She has been identified as Rajammal (65) of Andhra Pradesh Nelloor Vidavaluru Alavalapadu.
The incident happened early Thursday morning at 3.30 am in front of Thekketheruvu Amman Kovil which is at the south nada of Padmanabhaswamy Temple. Rajammal was one of the 45-member pilgrimage team including women, men and children from Nelloor. The bus carrying the team left Nelloor a week ago to visit the temples in Kerala. The team reached Padmanabhaswamy Temple from Sabarimala this morning.
The team left for temple darshan from the parking center near Bhajanapura mandapam. As she developed uneasiness, she was far behind. She was walking after keeping both her hands on either side of the waist. She suddenly collapsed. In the fall, she hit her head strongly on the roadside manhole.
Blood was oozing from her forehead. The other devotees walking in front of her did not notice this. Seeing the woman falling, auto driver Raju who was nearby rushed to her. He immediately informed the Fort Police and the police in Padmanabhaswamy Temple. She was immediately admitted at Fort Hospital but died shortly after.
After the postmortem in medical college hospital, her body was taken to Andhra in an ambulance. The team left for Andhra after completing the procedures in the police station. The Fort police have registered a case of unnatural death.
