THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The northeast monsoons known as ‘Thulavarsham’ will reach the southern parts of India in the next 72 hours. The Indian meteorological department said the start of the season will be modest but predicted ferocious rains in the coming days. IMD also confirmed the complete withdrawal of southwest monsoon from India.
The depression is located over the Southeast Arabian Sea and Southwest Arabian Sea. In the next 24 hours, it will move towards the west-northwest and become a strong depression. By October 21, the extremely low pressure will garner more strength and will move towards the Southwest Arabian Sea and Mid-West Arabian Sea.
Recently, a whirlwind was located over the southeast Bay of Bengal. Due to these reasons, the Indian Meteorological Department has warned about the possibility of moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning in Kerala for the next five days.
Districts including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Idukki, Ernakulam, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod may receive light to moderate rain at isolated places during the next three hours. A yellow alert has been announced in Thiruvananthapuram today.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department, strong winds with a speed of up to 40 km per hour are also possible. IMD has also warned of all fishing activities in the Kerala-Karnataka coast and Lakshadweep area due to heavy rains.
