KANNUR: Marion Apparels, a prominent clothing manufacturer in Kannur announced that it will suspend orders from Israel until peace is reestablished. This decision comes in response to moral concerns about the harm caused by bombings including the targeting of innocent people and hospitals. Industries Minister P Rajeev shared this information in a Facebook post.
Marion Apparels, a well-known clothing company in Kannur which also produces uniforms for various countries including the Israeli police made headlines due to this announcement. Marion Apparels has opted not to accept Israeli orders temporarily citing its moral opposition to actions that cause harm to innocent civilians and medical facilities. Notably, Marian Apparels is a globally recognized institution based in Kerala gaining international attention. The company has a significant global market presence and has been supplying uniforms to the Israeli police since 2015. They primarily focus on exports and are responsible for uniforms used by the Philippine Army, Qatar Air Force, Qatar Police, British American security firms as well as hospital uniforms.
Under the leadership of Malayali entrepreneur Thomas Olikkal, the company has been operating its manufacturing unit in Kannur Koothuparam since 2008. Marian Apparels also boasts a dedicated research and development team to maintain high-quality standards.
Approximately 1,500 employees mainly from the nearby areas work at the company. An impressive 95 percent of these employees are women. Their strong teamwork enables the production of goods meeting international standards. The company's exclusive focus on uniforms ensures that it remains unaffected by changing fashion trends. Marion Apparels generates an annual turnover of Rs 50-70 crore and also supplies uniforms to various schools in the Middle East as well as different departments in hospitals, fire and rescue gear and coats for foreign countries.
