KOCHI: CPM leader PR is embroiled in the Karuvannur cooperative bank fraud case alongside Aravindakshan and the bank's former accountant, C K Jills. The Ernakulam special court has adjourned Jills' bail plea to October 25 after completing arguments from both the defendants and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) yesterday.

The petitioners argue that the ED is targeting CPM leaders without sufficient evidence. Aravindakshan explained that the ED's claim regarding money going into his mother's account is untrue. He clarified that his income from three quarries and a hotel was deposited into that account. Aravindakshan also noted that he had three bank loans and received 20 lakhs rupees in his account from the first accused Satish Kumar for a DD for his daughter's MBBS admission.

In opposition to the bail plea, the ED firmly asserted that Aravindakshan and Jills are clearly implicated in the case. The ED presented phone call records between the first accused, Satish Kumar and Aravindakshan in court. During the hearing the ED attempted to play this conversation in court but the petitioners objected. Aravindakshan argued that the court should not consider this evidence without a proper scientific examination to verify the authenticity of the voice recording. As a result, the mobile voice recording was not played in the ED court. The ED also mentioned that this could be submitted along with the charge sheet.

Furthermore, the ED alleged that Jills acquired loans in the names of various individuals and committed fraud by returning the documents of the land secured for the loan unlawfully.
