VENMANI: A woman, who was named accused in a case registered by the Venmani police 24 years ago, was arrested the other day. The arrested person is Cheriyanad native Saleena. She was arrested by the Venmani police from Venjarammoodu on Wednesday.
The incident related to the case took place in 1999. The police had arrested Saleena for assaulting the first wife of her husband Saleem. After getting released on bail, Saleena moved away from Venmani and started living with her husband in hiding in Venjarammoodu. Later, she abandoned her husband and changed her name to Radhika Krishnan by notifying it in the Gazette. She then went on to live in hiding in Thiruvananthapuram, Sreekaryam, Pothencode and Bangalore.
In 2008, Saleena was declared a fugitive by the court. The Venmani police got information about her hideout after much effort. It was a special squad formed by the Chengannur Deputy Superintendent of Police that arrested Saleena on Wednesday when she reached her home in Kollamkadu from Bangalore. She was produced in the Chengannur Judicial First Class Magistrate Court and remanded.
