THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Trouble may follow you around in the form of your old vehicle even if you sold it. Obligations, including petty notices, may be sent to the old owner. The Motor Vehicle Department says that this can be easily solved through an online service called Faceless, but not many people know about it. According to Section 2 (30) of the Motor Vehicles Act, the person in whose name the vehicle is registered is the registered owner of the vehicle. Even if the agreement is written and the vehicle is handed over to someone else, there will be no change in the registered owner. In that case, all liabilities and suits will be in the name of the registered owner. To change the owner's name, an application should be made to the registering authority at the RT offices. The seller of the vehicle can now transfer ownership through faceless service without visiting the office. Linking Aadhaar is the only formality. The application can be filed online. Services that do not require a vehicle inspection and services that do not require a physical test can be availed through this.
