THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian meteorological department has confirmed the arrival of northeast monsoons( winter rains) in the state. Meanwhile, IMD also warned about cyclone Tej brewing in the Arabian Sea and fears the possibility of this one soon morphing into a cyclonic storm.
According to IMD, a very intense depression over the Southwest Arabian Sea intensified into a cyclonic storm. It is likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm in the next 12 hours and into a supercyclone in the next 24 hours. The cyclone will move in a north-northwest direction till the 22nd of this month and then in the northwest direction till the 24th. It will then move in a direction and make landfall on the Yemen-Oman coast between Al Ghaydah (Yemen) and Salalah by October 25 morning, the Meteorological Department said.
Low pressure is currently located over the southeast Bay of Bengal and the central-east Bay of Bengal. Due to these reasons, the Meteorological Department has warned that there is a possibility of moderate rain with thunder and lightning in Kerala for the next five days. There is also a warning of isolated heavy rains in the state on October 23 and 24. The Meteorological Department has also issued a yellow alert in various districts for the coming days.
