THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Rains are intensifying in the state due to Cyclone Tej formed in the Arabian Sea. The rain is also caused by strong low pressure above the southeast Bay of Bengal and the cyclonic circulation in the Comorin region.
A yellow alert has been announced in four districts in the state today as Monsoon has started. A yellow alert has been announced in Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha and Idukki districts.
Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod districts are likely to experience moderate rain with thundershowers at isolated places and gusty winds of up to 40 kmph during the next three hours. India Meteorological Department has informed that light rain may occur in other districts.
A yellow alert has been issued in Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Palakkad districts tomorrow. Strong winds with gusts of 40 to 45 kmph at occasional gusts up to 55 kmph and bad weather are likely over the central Bay of Bengal tonight.
However, the India Meteorological Department has informed that there is no disruption to fishing in the Kerala-Karnataka coast and Lakshadweep area.
