VELLARADA: A fire broke out in a furniture shop operating near Kiliyoor Junction. A fire broke out in the Makku furniture shop of Rajith, a native of Kiliyoor, on Muttachal Road around 10.30 last night.

The fire broke out after the owner left the shop. The owner came and informed the Vellarada police after being informed by the neighbours. Two fire units from Parashala first reached the spot after being informed by the police but could not bring the fire under control. Following this they tried to prevent the fire from going to nearby houses.

The 60 feet long and 30 feet wide furniture factory was completely gutted. It is a furniture manufacturing and selling company. The manufactured furniture, the wood kept for manufacturing and the machinery were completely destroyed by fire. A loss of lakhs of rupees was incurred. The windows and doors of a nearby house were also damaged in the fire. More fire units arrived from Neyyatinkara, Kattakada and Neyyardam and brought the fire under control. A detailed investigation has been launched into the cause of the fire. Vellarada police registered a case. The fire was brought under control by a team led by Parashala Fire Station Officer KV Sunil Kumar.
