KOZHIKODE: Survivor in a case of alleged post-surgery torture at the Medical College ICU plans a sit-in for justice. The survivor claims that the police have not taken appropriate action in the case. They believe the police did not thoroughly investigate their complaint against Dr Preeti and they haven't received a copy of the report. This lack of documentation is hindering their ability to seek legal recourse.
The survivor intends to meet with the City Police Commissioner on the 24th to demand action in the case and access to the report. If they do not receive a satisfactory response, they plan to stage a sit-in outside the commissioner's office the following day.
The survivor had previously filed a complaint with the police alleging that Dr K V Preetha at Kozhikode Medical College did not record their statement accurately and attempted to obstruct the case. After an investigation, the report by Kozhikode Medical College's ACP K Sudarshan submitted to the City Police Commissioner, did not find merit in the complaint. An application to obtain a copy of the report through the Right to Information (RTI) was denied. Additionally, the survivor provided a statement as part of a departmental investigation. On March 18, the survivor reported an incident of molestation that occurred while they were in the ICU recovering from thyroid surgery. The attendant involved in the case, MM Saseendran, was subsequently arrested.
