THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: It is alleged that some pro-government officials are subverting the promotion to the post of Tehsildar in the Revenue Department. Some who are eligible for the promotion are not being considered even after approaching the Administrative Tribunal and obtaining a favourable order. Some of these have been contempt of court.
One gets promoted to the post of Tehsildar on the basis of service and departmental tests. When the DPC meets for consideration for promotion, those who face disciplinary action or fail the departmental test are not included in the list. The law states that the ad hoc DPC should consider them for promotion if the action against these officers is disposed of or they pass the departmental test. Many such qualified officials are waiting for their promotion after submitting a confidential report and application to the Land Revenue Commissioner. Many of them have only months left for their service to end.
The employees allege that some people in the Land Revenue Commissionerate are behind the subversion as they will lose the possibility of their favourites getting promotion if the senior officials are on the promotion list.
